00-04-26          0700    Morning routine.  …..

Had a discussion with Vic GORMAN over the upcoming testing.  LATHEM wants the AES-V memo resubmitted with more reasons for attending, including that this is the last AES testing.  He assured that he would support this trip.  We discussed the FIB testing, but he wasn’t very confident that it would go ahead.  He indicated that there might still be an attempt at further financing from Treasury Board.  However, from the correspondence received, it would seem there is little chance of the Force going further with it.  We’ll have to wait and see what happens.

Vic also advised that a report had been received from the FBI regarding their AUGER process.  However, it only mentioned some of the exhibits, and nothing to do with the testing results.  LATHEM has phoned down to request the results.

(Clarification:)  It turned out that the FBI never did conduct AES tests, but some other form of testing completely different.  Lathem knew very little about the AES process when he had gone to New York, so whatever the FBI described to him seemed in his mind to be the same process.  Instead, it had been the NTSB who had tried the process on the ValuJet crash in Florida, but they (much like the TSB in Canada) had not obtained the results that they had wanted.
