00-08-25          0700    Morning routine.  John GARSTANG had a fire group meeting this morning, including all the companies and the FAA, etc.  They went over the fire evidence to make some determinations.  However, QUINTIERE is not here.  He has been put on hold.  The developments of this meeting are expected to provide enough incentive to bring him in.  I should have attended, but I was not officially invited (I am a member of the fire group), plus I was tied up on too many other things.

            Met Pat CAHILL of the FAA and had a very short discussion with her.  Had not seen her since Seattle, and she commented about it and the AES testing, asking what we ourselves had obtained from the testing.  I said that the wires had shown a high concentration of magnesium, something that was of interest to us.  She immediately responded to it commenting if it could be from the seawater, then insulation.  Each time I told her that we had tested for it, and then she paused, then said that what immediately comes to mind is an incendiary device.  Dr. Vern DAVIS was present at this point and agreed with her comment.  However, at this point, Jim FOOT came along and the conversation ended, as he wanted them to join in on something else.
