00-05-30          0700    Morning routine.  …..

Had a short conversation with Vic GORMAN about lab services.  He was speaking with Joe BUCKLE, the Manager of CDL Ottawa, and they are severely strapped for manpower to perform the examination.  In view of the latest events regarding AES, the cancellation of the seawater wire tests, it seems further wire examination can also be put on hold.  TSB does not need the data, as they are not concerned with the magnesium content.  Our management is not concerned with it, and the lab is unable to do it at this time, and not in the foreseeable future.  We are reviewing tasks previously assigned to Wendy NORMAN to determine if they are still necessary.

(Clarification;)    The Force's Crime Labs (especially Biology) had been taxed to the limit by the Swissair Morgue demands.  Then came the abundant requests from the reconstruction hangar.  While Garstang's requests were numerous, they all had purpose and were well thought out.  Foot's, however, were useless and unnecessary, simply an effort to forgo further AES and similar testing, and to eliminate Dr. Brown from the investigation.  Lathem had authorized them without acknowledging the fact that neither he nor Foot knew anything about physical evidence.
