00-11-20          0700    Morning routine.  Worked on notes and photos.

            ….

In speaking with John GARSTANG about the tile material, he advised that he had information back from CAMPBELL that indicates the material burnt for ten minutes at 1100 deg. F.  He is now checking on a five-minute temperature.  The reason for the five-minute temperature is because of the time line.  They don’t think that fire was fully involved for that length of time.  While we have no knowledge of the CVR & FDR timeline, it is obvious there is more to it.

(Clarification:)    The last line regarding the Cockpit Voice Recorder and the Flight Data Recorder deals with the fact that as a policeman, I had no right to know what was recorded on those tapes, especially the voice recorder.  The TSB was very protective about that, and John would only tell me generally what was recorded, and only in regards to technical aspects of the fire.  Of course, the last six minutes of flight were not recorded, so we were told.  As for the five-minute timeline, they had already provided a temperature of 1700 degrees F.
