00-09-02 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giuliano_Zaccardelli Giuliano Zaccardelli, COM (born c. 1947) is a former Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) officer who was the Commissioner of the RCMP from 2 September 2000 to 15 December 2006. Zaccardelli's departure from the RCMP was linked to the force's involvement in the Maher Arar Affair. He was subsequently impugned during inquiries into irregularities in the management of the RCMP's pension and insurance fund. He is now a senior official with Interpol in Lyon, France, heading its OASIS Africa program, which aims to help African police forces more effectively combat international crime. (Clarification:) Cambridge Dictionary - impunged definition: to cause people to doubt someone's character, qualities, or reputation by criticizing them. Zaccaardelli was also involved in a financial scandal (3.39 million dollars) within the Force, and the subsequent obstruction of two members who had investigated the matter - see 'A Matter of Trust'. The report describes the management style of Commissioner Zaccardelli, and how he fully controlled events that came to his attention. There can be little doubt that he influenced the outcome of the RCMP's Swissair 111 investigation, and subsequent matters that arose out of it. |
