01-09-16          RTO    0600    Checked out and loaded the van.  Headed North, bypassing New York City by keeping on the Garden State Parkway to the North end.  No problems encountered, and made excellent time, arriving at the ferry terminal about 1500 hrs.  Didn’t pick up I-95 until just outside Boston, and it is a much better route.  Picked up the new ticket, and then worked on notes for a while in the van.

Before boarding, went though a US Customs check.  There were a few anxious moments when they found out I had aircraft parts in the van, but my explanations were accepted.  It seems that items are believed to have been looted from the New York scene.  Even had two dogs to check the vehicles.  In addition, had a Police boat escort us out of the harbour.

Boarded and departed about 2215 hrs, a bit late.  But the trip was calm.  Worked on notes for a while until the battery ran out again.  Finished up about 2400 hrs.
