98-11-08        RTO    Called by ALMEY at 1000 hrs advising that there was a need for microscope & macroscopic work at ‘A’ hangar.  To office & collected gear.  Then to ‘A’ to set up in lab area.  Test shots taken, & GARSTANG showed the panorama program.  Atlanta trip on this week, & ALMEY is going.

2000   Finished & home.

(Clarification):  Almey was too busy with the front end processing of exhibits.  Tubs of material would come in from the dock where they had been off-loaded from the Coast Guard ships and washed, and they would be sorted by the people on the front line.  Some of the key exhibits included metal pieces showing the presence of soot or burn damage would be selected and turned over to the members at the exhibit processing table.  This had become a full-time position for the photographer, who this week was Ken Almey.  Ken had come in from his home Ident Section to spend yet another week in the hangars.

On arriving, I met with John Garstang and set up my equipment.  My new position soon became permanent, turning into the position that Garstang wanted from the start.
